As historical monument, the church dates back since 1292. In 1495 the church was built of stone by the rulers of the Romanian provinces. The old part of Brasov, Schei, is a touristic site throught the monumentality of Saint Nicholas church.
Saint Nicholas Cathedral was built of stone since 1495 by locals with the support of Neagoe Basarab, the Romanian Country ruler. Instead of this church existed in the past an old wooden worship place documentay attested in 1222.
